LOUD whirring noise

PC started up fine.

Loaded fine.

All programs loaded exactly as normal.

About 30 seconds in....RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

and I mean loud.

I shut it down, and rebooted. Nothing again.

Whadya say?

Sounds like it might be the fan
Download speed fan and check for overheating

Dont know where you are or the temperature of the area of the computer. In another month here (NY Area) on the top most floor the temps will hit high 80s in the day.
Also donk know the last time that you used the computer, before starting up.
Also can be a DEFECTIVE fan sensor.

lo 60s in the Bay Area. Will keep an eye on it. It's almost 4 years old and OOW, so it's not going in for repair.

If not the fan I would consider the Hard drive. Back up your stuff and take a hard drive test
Then the optical drives.
