Cropping Images in Photo Gallery

So I've been cropping my photos in Windows Photo Gallery in the hopes of making the file smaller, but for whatever reason it always leaves me with a larger file. Why is this? Shouldn't cropping the image to make it smaller make the file size of the image smaller as well? Is there any way to make this happen in Windows Photo Gallery?

Hi Titan777, wlcome to vista forums, if you are tring to e-mail your photo, click on e-mail, In the search bar, then click on picture size,it will give you several choices small medium large and original size,or you can click on open, On the search bar, in the drop down menu choose paint you can also resize in that program, good luck, patch41

Are you cropping the same amount of picutres for the same file or are you thinking if you crop them you will be able to fit more in the same file..

I'm not trying to email anything, just trying to trim down the file sizes of my images and free up some space on my hard drive. Some of the file sizes get smaller when I crop them, and others get larger, and I'm trying to figure out why. Any thoughts?

This is in reply to americancritic: I mean the file size of the photo itself. Let's say the photo is 300 KB, and I crop out a chunk of the picture. Sometimes the file size will drop like it should, but other times it will get larger, and I don't understand why. Does that make sense?

Hi Lottiemansion, Thanks for the tip, after i downloaded the program i coudn't find it in programs, then i went into forums where brice lamson explained there is no program just click on the picture you would like to resize and it will give the options,I used windows photo gallery, and windows paint to resize, but this seems a lot easier, thanks again,patch41
