Right click 'Save As' not working

Hello, a week ago I started up my computer and immediately disc scanner launched and fixed several hard disc errors errors I had.

Since then the 'save as" function in windows explorer, IE, chrome, firefox does not work. When you go to this function the window blinks but nothing happens. This is very frustrating given that I use this a lot saving pictures from the web such as album artwork for Itunes.

Any ideas on what the problem is? All windows updates have been installed and the latest versions of flash and java are running. I have done extensive searches on this problem but all I have been able to find older posts which reported older service packs fixed this problem. Thanks in advance!

Just did anti-virus and malware scan, came up with nothing.

I cannot do a system restore because its beyond 5 days since the problem and I dont wanna lose and work or changes I've made the last few days.

Any other ideas?

Any other ideas? That seems very complicated and no new programs have been installed which might be conflicting with it. I also do not wanna do a clean install.

Clean boot has nothing to do with a clean install. It merely disables some programs from startup. They are easily put back.

Try perfoming a save as
Then go to search and type event viewer
Go to the administrative in left panel and
look for the error that occured at the time of the problem.
Report back with all information.

I did a bunch of 'save as' instances again and the last thing it shows is from several hours ago that have nothing to do with this. Does the event viewer take a while to update?

What other errors are you getting in the event viewer, I have really never seen one that's a 100 % clean, take todays only and look at them and see if you can match them to anything that happened between the problem and the error and then send that to us please it will help if we know what kind of error and the info behind it...

I think if I was you I would also do a full sfc scan on my computer, this is how...

1. Click start...
2. In the search box type: cmd...
At the top of the popup you will see cmd.exe, RIGHT click the cmd.exe and click run as administrator...
3. When the command box appears then TYPE: sfc /scannow notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash...
4. Let it finsih the scan and if it finds any errors then run it 3 more times as it fixs more everytime you run it.
