OS System stopped working. Win Vista Home Prem.

Hi forum,
This (see below) happened to-day but the PC seemed to right itself shortly afterwards. I performed the following: 1. Memory Test, 2.ChDsk (files and recovery of bad sectors), 3. Seagate Hard Drive Tests, (4) Disc Defrag.
The unit now appears to be working perfectly but I am still worried by this event. Read somewhere that this often occurs with "bad RAM stick". I do not know what this means as I am not very technical. I have also plenty of RAM..4gb.

Don't think it is repaired, it will pop up when you least expect it until it is fixed, and chances are there will be more. Do please follow the advice above so otheres can learn from it also...

Many thanksl. Here is further information for you:-
System: Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit)
Hard Drive age .... 6 months..replaced then with a new one.
Laptop ......... 4 years old.
System is OEM and came pre-installed on unit.
I also use a Scandisk (4gb) stick for Ready Boost.

In connection with the latter item, it appears that this went "dead" just
prior to the BSOD. I had attempted to do a ChDsk with this in the Laptop
when some quick warning about "memory dump" came up. I could not complete this with the stick inserted so I removed it and was able to proceed. I am now using it but had to install it again before it would work. I am thinking this may have been a factor in the fault.
I shall follow the tutorials you have proffered but they do look quite complicated and I shall proceed with caution. Many thanks again and,if you have any other views, they would be appreciated.

The tutorial is easy to follow and we believe you can do it as I had to do it also it just looks hard but it's not. We need to keep you up to date so you can help others, so please try and it will be a good learning experience for you and for others who need help that have the same problem, good luck...

Hello all,
I resurrect this matter again as I have again had a BSOD where the PC was shutdown for safety. The error that came up was 0x00000023. I Googled this and was referred to what I consider to be a dubious remedy which recommended that I download a ParetoLogic PC Health which I did. It did a scan finding over 390 errors in Registry/Drivers etc. To fix these I had to register with them. I did not do this and deleted the programme immediately as I seem to remember various "scam" sites trumping up these error lists to entice people onboard. I am at a loss to know what to do as I am afraid of SERIOUS irretrievable damage to my system. Help !
