Cannot view thumbnails of images in pictures folder or when trying to change wallpape

My PC running Vista Home Premium 32-bit had the Google re-direct virus which made my desktop wallpaper blank.

I have removed it, but I cannot change the wallpaper through Control Panel > Personalization > Desktop Background; when I look at the wallpapers stored in Windows Wallpapers, I see the file names but no thumbnails.

I have the same exact problem in my Pictures directory, none of my pictures' thumbnails show. How do I fix this?

The pictures load normally if I double click on them, I can start slideshows, etc., but they are not displaying correctly in explorer.

If you are absolutely sure that you have Google Redirected Virus, then the above link will probably not solve your problems outright.
I think first you should consider:-


First, to assist in the elimination of possible virus and/or malware.
I would ask you to please use your Anti-virus full scan program facilities, making sure, you have updated the software first. Please advise us of the results.

If you do not have any anti-virus loaded please go to this link and download Microsoft Security Essentials :- Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Secondly, please download:- malwarebytes Malwarebytes a Malware searching program, again, an updated full scan. Notify results please. Both these programs are Freeware

Hello and welcome.

Please take to heart also if you had this virus and you have cleared it out of your system, make sure you delete your restore points and start new ones, if you use the ones already there you will reinfect your computer again.
