Windows file transfer doesn't transfer back

Hi!

My last problem was solved and everything works fine now. I need the documents and emails from the old computer. I have it on my external and made a copy to my root C drive.

The problem is that I used Windows file transfer 7 and I want the files back to my Vista computer that I reinstalled. When I use Windows file transfer I get an error message that says I should choose a valid file.

What can I do?

My guess is the drive letter is now different to the path when the backup was made.

Just a question. Did you trasfer with the same bit that you are trying to transfer back to, ie. did you use the 64 bit and now you want to go back to a 32 bit Vista?

I have already tried the MIGrecover tool and I have password on the MIG file. So I entered the password at the end but it didn't recognize it. When I try without password it extracts alla the files but with "Error while creating destination file C:\MIGRECOVER\RECOVER\File\C:\Users\[...]

I have Vista 32-bit and installed and used Easy transfer 7, 32-bit software installation.

I attached an image of how it looks when extraction is finished, without password entered. With password it won't even extract.

Based upon all that has been said, here are my feelings.
I am not certain that easy transfer can be used to go from Seven to Vista. Easy Transfer is a marketing tool to facilitate the transfer from Vista to Seven. They want to make it easy to upgrade to Seven.
I know for a fact, it can be used to go from Vista to Vista as I did it myself as a test, before buying Seven.
Ill try to find doucmentation, which will be impossible if I am mistaken.

So what do I do now? I was convinced that I was able to transfer back later, to the very same computer and OS?

Can I convert the MIG file or open with another software?

If it were me, this is what I would do
Find a friend or even an enemy that has Vista. Open a new user account, transfer everything to there, and then just back up the normal fashion.
I dont know how to get information from Easy Transfer without actually making the transfer.

Okay I might be able to do that. But how should I do it? Connect to the same network? Can the MIG-file work on another computer even if it didn't work on mine?

If I could get a computer with windows 7 would that work too by extracting from my external drive?

With Easy Transfer, Im not even sure of the network, but it is a viable method;I think that it is worth a try. I think the Mig will work on another computer, as long as the OS is correct.

The suggested methods include:
Buying the transfer cable and then going direct from computer to computer
or
What I did: Computer, to finger drive and then back to the same (or in your case another) computer after I upgraded to Seven.

I would think that if you use a computer with Seven, you can transfer as you suggested.

I think that the OP no longer has the files on the OS, its transferred by Windows Easy Transfer.

You could plug the drive in and then access them
