All of a sudden after 2 years of flawless operation, Vista is starting to run chkdsk on my D: drive (Recovery Partition).
Even though I am given the option of stopping the scan, hitting "any key" does not work.
The scan starts and beginning at "sector 1036" I get "sector is unreadable".
This continues at about 1 sector every few seconds (headed for 11000+ sectors).
If I stop the computer (via holding the power button) and restart, hitting F8 and when the menu comes up, I can choose "last known good configuration" and when the chkdsk scan begins I can stop it, Vista loads, and everything is fine (until the next reboot).
Is there a way to stop this?
Should I let the chkdsk run overnight to see if this corrects the problem?
Is there a way to recreate the Recovery partition from the present (good) state of the main drive?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
