Iv been having problems with windows explorer for as long as I can remember. Takes ages to open the files im looking for and the past week iv noticed iv had to start task manager and end the task 2 or 3 times after boot up just to get it to work. Are there any possible causes and fixes for this? Thanks in advance

Iv already done a clean boot for another problem earlier in the week which I solved thanks to your advice but im a bit scared to do it again and cause another problem or bring an old one back. The windows explorer issue isnt really a major headache for me, as I said it does work, just slowly. Is there any other way I can check for explorer problems without the clean boot?

My Computer

Clean boot should not bring back problems.
If you are concerened make a system restore point first, so that you can go back in case of problems.

Ok iv tried clean boot but still cant solve this problem. I was thinking of doing a factory restore. Would this be a good idea? I have been having problem after problem of late and no matter what I do, I fix one problem and another presents itself

My Computer

Factory restall would be up to you.
Upside, unless you have a hardware problem the reinstall should work.
The downside.
Vista is an old OS, you will have to reinstall the SPs, updates, your software, settings etc.
You could make that job a bit easier by using Windows Easy Transfer. Programs always have to be reinstalled, with Key numbers if applicable.

Have you tried an upadated and full anti virus scan as well as a full and updated malwarebytes scan?

Yes iv done full avg and malwarebytes scans in the last week. factory restore seems a bit complicated for me, Ill maybe get my brother to do it for me. I also just found another way around the explorer problem. Just d/loaded an explorer program called nexusfile and its working perfectly from boot up

There was alot of writing on it but id no time at all to see what it said

Firstly I click my start button then type sfc in the search bar, sfc.exe appears at the top of the start menu, I right click and choose run as administrator, the windows needs my permission option comes up and I click continue then the command page just flashes, it has a lot of writing on it but flashes on and disappears in no time at all

My Computer

No Patch

In search your type cmd
