Black Preview Screen in Windows Movie Maker (WMM).

Help... Black (Preview Screen) in Windows Movie Maker(WMM).

Running .. Windows Vista 32pt Service Pack1

Problem... I can import and view in left pane of WMM All Files types ie.. .avi,.mp4, .mpg, .wmv, .mov.

But only the .wmv files show to be total black when I put them in the right pane(Preview Screen). This happens with all my .wmv’s files, I even tried importing a sample video that came with my computer and that file previews black also. ie Butterfly.wmv So should leave out a corrupt file problem.

Also note: That all these files view and run perfectly in Windows Media Player(WMP) except .mov

I would suggest you update windows to SP2 & then get the rest from there. This update (SP2) will update the system files & WMM files too.

I have installed Service Pack 2, still the same results.... any other suggestions ' other
than a total system reboot...

I have installed K-Lite Codec Pack, sill not working...
but I did install windows live movie maker from windows live essentials 2011 suite of programs, and it works fine ie: loads *.wmv files and works. so I will use this instead of WMM... for now..
my next plan will be to do a program recovery only from the Launch HP Backup and Recovery Manager
