This is generally used to remove the user password, but try it -- it may work: Press Start, then type: control userpasswords2. UNcheck the box that says “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer,” and then hit Apply.

Another thought: here's something that worked for one of our members on the Windows Seven Forums, who was able to reset his administrative account password --- can you do a system restore to a date before you set the password? If you can, and it works, you owe the thanks to multiverse.

It will be wonderful if this works (and the old password is remembered). Actually, this is included in the Tutorial I posted initially as Method FOUR (which can be referenced if further details might be helpful), but I did not emphasize it (focusing instead on Method THREE) as I assumed from how the post was worded that this occurred a long time ago and well beyond the existence of an applicable restore point. However, I was wrong to not at least mention the option as I have no real knowledge of when this happened (and it was right there in detail in the tutorial). Thanks for presenting the alternative and covering for what may well have been an incorrect assumption on my part. It's great to have reliable and expert backup in these forums.
