Hello! I was trying to clean up my father's laptop, and thought I'd run a check disc. I had it scheduled to run on next restart, restarted my computer, and waited to watch numbers go up. And... It never ran? So I searched online, and found this thread on your forum:
Chkdsk will not run - I did the safe mode work around, and it didn't work. So I went to the second thing, the SFC/scannow thing, and I got this:

(wow, line breaks are *killer*, sorry.)
I read in another thread that the settings.ini is changed when you install something onto your computer, and will then read as 'corrupt', so I'm not too concerned about that. It's the autochk thing!
I also read in another thread that if you didn't get an installation disc with your computer (because microsoft are MEAN and don't believe in letting me re-install the OS I paid for, honestly!!), you could copy it from a computer that was working and replace the file. I tried that, from my personal laptop to this laptop, and ran the SFC/scannow again, and it still wasn't fixed.
(I still have the original file from this laptop backed up, if that would help any. :S)
Both laptops run Vista home premium with service pack 2, and I know that my check disc works, because I just ran it about a week ago. I *also* don't have the recovery disc for Vista, because our basement flooded and all of that was packed up.
All the specs in my user CP are for my father's computer.
So, any ideas? Thank you for your time, and if I can provide any more information or clarify something, I'd be more than ready!!
