Can't access vssadmin list shadowstorage via the CMD prompt

Hi guys,
I still can't access vssadmin list shadowstorage via the CMD prompt

so I use the GUI from system control panel 2nd picture attached.

I've done the SFC / restore points, and stuff-nothing works. It's been a year since I tried to use it any more.

I don't want to reinstall cause it takes 12hrs ( to get it back the way I want )

I checked the old files and found your post, sorry that the number of responses were so low.
I tried to research your problem both at the forum and with Google and in both cases came up with a large number of questions but no answers. The problem is not unique but does not have a definitive answer at this juncture

Using my experience, I come up with precious little. Start with an SFC scan, since you have already done this, the next logical step would be a repair install. Do you have an install DVD?

Although our core staff is not as large as it once was, we have an excellent crew, who even surprise me. Possibly someone will come by with an answer that will be used by you and others, who Google, as the solution for this difficult problem.

i did try SFC and attempted a repair install.
This is the only issue with my win7 laptop, so I deal with it.

You would be wise posting in Seven, too. Many members there; one may just come up with a good solution. We have some rather talented people, here, however, and you may be surprised come morning.

This error is very general. It does not seem to imply an error with the service itself, or a dependancy (and that is less likely for this service anyway, it is almost absolved (only dependancies: RPC > DCOM))

We cannot work without that event log entry. Open Event Log (Windows Key + R + eventvwr.msc) Windows Logs > Application > Now post anything which comes from source VSS or SPP.

It cannot be moved to SF, you would have to re-post. That was pretty conclusive. All we need to do is re-register a .dll. Which one? I think it may be Ole32.dll.

From cmd.exe:

regsvr32.exe Ole32.dll

See if that helps.

EDIT: This .dll should register successfully. If it does not, we need to find out why!

Right, please open regedit.exe, and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID

Now carefully navigate to {0B5A2C52-3EB9-470A-96E2-6C6D4570E40F} and single click on that key (in regedit, key looks like a folder, and value looks like a file)

Now please post a screenshot showing the contents of the {0B5A2C52-3EB9-470A-96E2-6C6D4570E40F} key.

Right, now please export an entire registry to the root C:\ drive. MUST BE THERE!

Why? This ensures we have a valid registry backup. ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to store a complete backup of your registry and restore if needed. Removing modern malware infections often requires making changes to the registry, and a corrupt registry can prevent a system from booting. Compatible with Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 32 & 64-bit versions.

Download ERUNT
Double-click erunt_setup.exe to run.
Follow the prompts and install using the default configuration (setup language, install location, shortcuts...).
Say No to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later.
Start ERUNT
Choose a location for the backup
The default location C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\[today's date] is preferred
The first two check boxes are ticked by default (System registry and Current user registry).
Press OK
When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
Progress bars will show backup status.
A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close.

Right, now go regedit > File > EXPORT > Selected Branch (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID) and export. Now please upload the resulting registry script here for further analysis.

@pacinitaly: I have just noticed that you said on SF a while ago that SFC does not work anymore. I thought that SFC detected nothing! What error does SFC generate?

@richc46: Maybe we could have one of those big system corruptions on our hands.

@pacinitaly: You may not know what any of this is about, but you may be about to find out what it is like being the patient of a surgeon on his first day of work on a real patient! I might have to do some CBS.log analysis which I have never done before, depending on the error message you are getting!

here ya go Richard, but the folder in question {0B5A2C52-3EB9-470A-96E2-6C6D4570E40F} does not exist.
I attached the .reg file after saving using erunt.
I don't want to reinstall so I think I'm going to leave this alone.

Actually, that registry export has thrown up a corruption. You are missing a different one. Slightly odd that the one I previously referenced does not exist. Hmmm.

Anyway, import this registry script. Hopefully it won't fail to import.
