Index Search 4.0 Question

I wanted to ask and get some thoughts on this.

I need to install SP2 (haven't done it yet) but once I install it and Index Search 4.0 is slowing my PC to an unacceptable speed - Could I uninstall it and reinstall SP1 Index Search 3.0/3.1 and not have any issues with the rest of the SP2 set?

You could also just disable the Index if it does. Your searches may take a tiny bit longer with the index disabled, but they will always be accurate.

Yes i know, i tried that before but i can't stand the slowness since I like viewing my thumbnails since I don't name my files properly.

Is there a way to know what version of index search one has on their PC machine? I think Vista SP2 installed search 4.0 but I'm not positive since I don't see it under my windows update any longer after leaving Vista SP1.

Tried looking on Google but I may of not written a proper search text to find any info other then service commands and looking thru the control panel with no luck or I'm probably blind and couldn't see it.
