resolved: mouse acts like single click is active

Doesn't happen all the time, but has increased in how often it takes place.

Today, I go to Desktop background. I try to click once on a picture file, and then use the arrow keys to scroll down the files. This worked fine last week. It now acts as if I turned on single click. I haven't.

I checked double click speed, and I have moved it waaaay down towards slow. Probably less than 10 percent of the way from 'Slow'. It was up at 75 percent towards Fast.

It really doesn't seem to make much difference.

Sounds like time for a new mouse

Go to device manager, check drivers for mouse. Make sure it is the most current (from company website, not automatic update). Look for yellow warning markers.

If wireless check batteries.

Logitech's site says the driver that shipped with it won't wrok with Vista, use the native mouse driver that comes with Vista.

No warning markers.

Is it a wireless mouse? If so disconnect it from usb and reconnect. I had a similar problem with my wireless mouse.

If not the fiddle around with the settings, reinstall drivers.

Oh, I moved the double click speed all the way down to slow. Seems to have marginal effect.

Now the effect is intermittant. Mostly less, but is still there.

If it worked fine last week (using whatever drivers you were using then and however everything was configured at that time), perhaps a System Restore will resolve the problem. Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates (keeping in mind that they may have caused this).

I don't know exactly when it started as my job has been very tiring for the past month or so.

I was thinking about buying a new mouse. It could be this mouse's button switchs are failing and giving a double click when I click only once.

I bought a different brand of mouse this morning, and the problem seems to have gone away.
