Problems with Programs.

I'm having some troubles with my laptop. It was fine just yesterday, but then it suddenly reset my colour scheme to the basic colours... I figured it was just a bug or something, but now it won't open nearly anything. It hangs on Control Panel, proceeds regularly when going to open Firefox & other programs but after a few moments it does nothing. It hangs on the system restore page.

It also says that it's not connected to the Internet, the big red x on the two computers, however, it will still open & run World of Warcraft smoothly... It's kind of strange, you need an internet connection to connect to WoW servers.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem & might know how to help me.

It just seems like the system files have trouble opening. Could it be a virus?

Hello thethirdplanet, welcome to Vista Forums!

The first thing to do would be a virus scan; download and install the free version of Malwarebytes from the link below, then run a full scan to see if it comes up with anything; be sure to post back to keep us informed.

See I'd love to do that, however I'm in a slight bind. With no CDs or DVDS, lack of a currently usable Internet browser & a laptop incapable of using a floppy disk, I can't download any Anti-Virus programs. I suppose I will wait until I can.

Also to note, it won't update Windows, or even allow me to view the Update window. It opens but hangs. Anything I try to do with the system results in that window freezing.

Hello again.

Well, I guess you're in a straight betwixt two then; no way to get a CD even? If there were you could run the MBAM CD from safe mode, have a look at the tutorial at the link below.
