Pick Which Programs in Start Menu

Under Windows XP, Tweak UI has a section that the user can put a checkmark next to the applications that will be allowed "to appear in the Most Frequently Used Programs section of the Start menu".

Is there a program or registry tweak that will accomplish this under Vista?

hello BZee

try this it may be what you want...
right click task bar > properties > start menu tab > customize, see if this is what you are looking for..

also you can right click "most" programs and select pin to start menu, or add to quick launch....hope this helps!

good luck

Not what I'm looking for. If I use MS Word (especial if I use it several times) it shows up on the start menu's "Most Frequently Used Programs" section. If I already have MS Word on my toolbar, I want to tell Vista not to add MS Word to the "Most Frequently Used Programs" section. I can do this under Windows XP with Tweak UI.

You could disable it showing a list of recent programs and then pin the programs that you want to the start menu?

See attached photos for instructions

I have some pinned to the start menu and quite a few others on an auto-hide taskbar. The programs on the taskbar (and infrequently used programs) I do not want to appear on the start menu. Other, more frequently used programs, I do want to appear on the srart menu. If I can't set Vista up like this I will follow your suggestion.

I think that Tom gave you the only possible solution (other than messing with registry, which is not advised). Turn off the recent items icons, so none will show. Then just pin the ones that you want to start menu. I think it is a great solution. Good going Tom.

Thank you Rich, even though it is not what the poster wanted, it is the closest method that I can think of.
