virus to nightmare

hello all,
here is my situation, first the hardware

Dell XPS m1530 4gb ram duo core T7700 processors
250 gb hard drive it had 2 partitions to start now 4 partitions
after I repartitioned the drive, ever thing was was still golden.
in fact I used the factory restore twice with out incident.

about 2 weeks ago I start hearing music coming out of my speakers, really weird music and I know I'm not playing music at the time. so first thought is trojan / virus / malware something. So I figure to do a tried and working method of removing it. im gonna reformat C: and do a restore .. 10 to 15 minutes compared to 3 or 4 weeks of fighting with it.

first issue is when I do F8 and goto factory restore all is good it reboots and goes to a blank screen then I get an unknown error more actually I get a blank error.
it reboots and then the bluescreen of death ..

i have tried every thing i can think of to get my system back up .. I borrowed a friends vista business disk got it to install but I was getting errors every 30 to 45 seconds .. I thought maybe it had to do with drivers. I then tried going thru dos boot to see if i could get to my recovery disk and do a recovery that way .. no help.
same blank error.

then i decided to try a windows 7, ok i got it working (i don't like it) but I'm still getting redirects and strange things happening, And now with 7 on board my internal drives have disappeared from disk management. so I'm thinking that the infection is still present. so I think that even tho i told it to format the drive before install it didn't. And I still get the blank error when I attempt run imagex from dos ( i hope its because the infection never got reformatted over. That may be iffy at best.)

I just finished downloading the vista recovery disk. so I am hoping that this will solve my issues.

However since we are talking about windows .. I am not overly optimistic that this will be the case.

now to my query:

if using the recovery disc will let me get to my recovery drive but i still run into said blank error does anyone have any ideas of how to proceed from this point. I really dont think I should have to pay for vista ultimate again, but I'm thinking I may have no choice if I want to get my system back where it was.

I do apologize for this long winded oration. but I felt I needed to let you know what I've done to this point in an attempt to resolve these issues.

and on a personal note .. I would dearly love to find my self face to face with the moron that decided to create this infection .. I'm pretty sure he would have a whole new outlook on life.

Heyy,
You could download Malwarebites and scan for infections, it found 30 that i didnt know about! malwarebytes

If the laptop is still under warranty you could phone up dell and tell them whats happening and see if they can offer any help.

I have had the problem with music playing and windows media player no open, it turned out that windows media player was still running as a process, so i just opened up task manager and ended the process.

Hope this helps you,
Daniel =)

Have you tried a repair install? It sounds like you have a DNS 'hijack', doing the redirection.

Maybe you could try grabbing a Linux distro, burn it to a CD, then install ClamAV in the Live CD session and use it to scan your Vista drive for viruses/malware etc.
