My PC screen fades to a snow white and keeps freezing up

Hi,

I went to load my computer last night and my computer wouldn't load. It said there was a problem and recommended a system repair. I did this and it then went to another screen saying it needed to check the c drive to make sure that it was consitent with the other drivers. When that was complete i could then enter my password and log in. When i did that i went to the internet then my screen started to fade to a snow white screen. My PC then froze. I switched it off and went throught the same process as above. This time i started to do a virus scan on my pc and halfway through the scan my pc froze again and couldn't complete the scan. I need help please!! It is happening whether i am on the internet or not and i don't have any other applications open.

The night before last i deleted the McAfee Program that was on my PC because it kept asking me to scan when i already have a subscription with Norton. Could this have something to do with it??

I will try what you suggested tonight and will let you know if it worked.

Did you use the uninstall tool?

No i didn't use the uninstall tool. I just deleted it. After i did that that is when the problem started. I got it out of the recycle bin and restored the McAfee program. Thought that would fix it but it didn't. I am not real computer savvy.

Removing Anti Virus without the tool can be a bear, all kinds of problems. Dont know if it is the cause of this one, but may be.

Safe mode is good it runs the computer on only the basics, no window dressing

Boot the computer, when it starts to boot, quickly keep hitting the f8 key. If it does not work the first time try 2 more time. Even with a good computer, if you do not hit the key just right, it does not work.
