I guess you could say I'm at the lower-end of intermediate level Vista experience, but I dabbled unwittingly (witlessly!) with NTFS Permissions recently, and need help restoring Firefox to it's normal state. I saw a listed forum here for User Accts., but then after logging on I don't see it, oddly-- so here I am in General Disc. & hope someone can at least refer me.
No one else uses my laptop but me, and I've got my life divided into 3 separate user accts. I recently went into Programs and changed (via right-click) Firefox to run as an Administrator. Don't ask why, it's sort of irrelevant now anyway, but this is presenting some disturbing results, or, ahm, "symptoms" now, and I would like to gracefully back out of this can of worms ASAP.
When you right-click on a program.exe, as opposed to (any) file or folder, "Run As Administrator" appears near the top of the menu. That's where I went a few days ago and I can't recall what pop-up box may have appeared at that point, but I changed the Permissions for using Firefox, and need to restore it's status back to the previous state, which was: I could start it without being asked for a PWd or having to OK a pop-up window, whether I was in one of my 2 Admin. accts. OR in the 1 Standard User acct. I know, I know, I shouldn't be operating with 2 Admin. accts., learned that just recently, but I need to un-do this first before dealing with that. I thought that I might find a somewhat obvious solution by going into Properties> Security, but things are configured (checked off) there to reflect that all Users and Admin. have Full Control, which doesn't make sense as per what I'm witnessing....but I dare not attempt to modify anything there. In the one Vista book I have, David Pogue's "Missing Manual", he says, "Entire books have been written on the topic of NTFS Permissions alone. You have been warned."
Can anyone tell me the best way to disengage the "Run As Administrator" status for software once it's been empowered this way? Thanks...
