svchost.exe causing problems

hi

I started noticing about just 2 days ago. whenever i am playing a movie or any audio file, its not clear because the cpu is being used completely 100% most of the time.
I checked the task manager and found out that svchost.exe is taking up most of the memory and cpu!!!!!
any solutions so that i can fix this, i dont think i can end process svchost since it runs some important applications on windows.

Edited: Just noticed that System idle process is also using up all the CPU !!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Sorry, but you can't have both running at 99% (System Idle isn't a process; it means just what is says, the measurement of the CPU not being used).

The main Performance window just give you a snapshot every second or so. You'll get a better feel if you click on the Performance tab in Task Manager, and then on Resource Monitor. This will show the process performance over a 60 sec. period.

Sorry forget about the system idle thingy, its still the svchost!!!
i checked out the link, but none of the services that svchost is running can be stopped.!!

well hope u can come up with smth fast, since even simple music files are lagging

1. Download SysInternals AutoRuns from Microsoft TechNet, run it and File > Save the output to your desktop as AutoRuns.arn (It'll take a minute or so to run).

2. Run MSInfo (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information), File > Export to a text file (MSInfo.txt) on your desktop.

3. Open an Administrative command prompt and type in perfmon /report; a viewer will appear (again, it'll take a minute or so). File > Save as a HTML file (PerfMon.html) on your desktop.

4. Press the Ctrl key and left-click on each of AutoRuns.arn, MSInfo.txt, and PerfMon.html so that they are high-lighted; right-click on MSInfo.txt, click on Send To, then Compressed (zipped) Folder.

5. Upload the resulting MSInfo.zip file on your desktop - see Vista Forums - FAQ: Reading and Posting Messages). Wouldn't hurt to review the rest of the FAQ while you're waiting for a reply.

The best advice that i can give you is to do a virus scan. Try avg rescue cd boot disc: AVG Rescue CD Cleans Your Infected Windows PC - Anti-Virus - Lifehacker

Also the best thing for you is to do a little research: Google

Thanks a lot for your advice but the system used to work perfectly be4, until i got a virus that stopped explorer.exe from launching automatically, i used malware bytes to remove it.

i did all the tweaks. there is one thing i wanted to ask. i am using a laptop, so maybe sometimes (actually rarely) when the battery is over and iam noticing it shuts down, so will that affect my hard drive since i optimized it to maximum performance??
