Help Please with RAM and BIOS settings

Gday out there ,i found out the 2GBram kit i had was faulty so i sent it back and got the new ones yeaterday ,I couldnt wait to apply your list of settings so this is what i did ,i did what you said in the list below,well i think i did but i have a funny feeling i messed up ,in the section were you say about serial ports i could only find this {onboardserial port 1 ,it had 3F8/IRQ4,I disabled it } And the paraallel port mode i disabled as well it use to read 378 IRQ7 Now it is disabled.i restarted after applying these changes and all was great seemed to be like a rocket taking no time at all to load a page.I shut it down last night and fired it back up today and nothing ,well it starts,but black screen only,i cant even get to the xxxxx bios page ,i took out the battery thinking that would reset everything but still the same .Its obvious i messed up somewere can i please ask for your help on what i might do the fix my problem.

Ishould mention this is for a Q6600 and Mother board is a GA-P35-DS3R
this is from a guy in another forum that said try these settings basic setup these days is gigabyte splash screen off, floppy drive set to none ( and fdd controller disabled) boot order set to the first HDD and all others disabled (I use the f12 boot menu if I want to boot to something else), serial and parallel ports disabled, S.M.A.R.T enabled, auto cpu fan control on, and that's about it.

Hi Ed Cunuck and Dwarf i changed the port settings above to disable ,not sure if that would make a difference thou,and yes Dwarf it is similar to the other thread i posted ,but this time no lines on the monitor at all,when i press start ,I replaced the Ram ,replaced the burnt out psu,the monitor works fine on my other pc.The other settings i changed were the boot up procedure as above.Ive tryed pluging in a speaker ,no beep when pressing the start button,I took out one of the memory sticks,and tryed to boot from there but nothing .

Hm after numerous presses with the on off button,and nothing hapening,and the same with the reset button,and nothing ,with it off for a few hours,pressed the on button,nothing,then pressed the reset button and knock me down with a feather it booted up perfectly.Then i changed the boot up procedure,so i can boot from the cd i restarted and no probs,then restarted again after windows updates,and shut down for dinner and tryed again later and nothing well no boot up anyway ,just hangs with fans going and lights on and no boot ,no picture on the screen ,hope this extra info helps .

Let me get this straight; is the following correct?

You changed the boot order so that it boots from the CD first, and the hard drive as secondary. Then you booted without a CD in the drive and it worked OK for a while and then stopped working.

Can you boot from the CD?

Do you get a BIOS Post screen before it hangs, i.e. can you still get into the BIOS? If you can, try changing the boot order again back to the hard drive.

Not really its like this yes i changed the boot order 1 HDD,1 Dis ,and 3 Dis ,i tryed the on button several times and nothing it just hangs,then tryed restarting via the restart button,and then i tryed to boot from the cd ,no go there.I waited several hrs and left it off ,then pressed the on button,just hanging again i left it for 10 mins or so then hit reset and it booted fine ,went through the screens,i left it run for a while until it did windows updates,then when it went to restart i hit delete and changed the bios boot up procedure to read 1HDD,2CD ROM 3 CDROM,as i dont have a floppy i thought that maybe i will be able to boot from the cd if it happens again,i saved the new boot up steps and restarted again, it was fine no problems at all,then i shut it down for dinner ,went to boot it up 2 hrs later and same thing it just hangs, I replaced the PSU ,4 weeks ago as i had a different isue and found out the PSU was nearly dead,i replaced both the mem ram sticks aswell as i found they were faulty .I hop this isnt to much blurb .

Hi yes thats corect ive disconected everthing just using one stick of ram ,no hdd ,no cdrom ,and the leyboard and speakers and thats it nothing else on my pc,oh except the vid card,i left that pluged in as i dont have onboard video i dont think anyway,well i can not see were else to plug in the monitor.

I'd try setting your BIOS back to the default settings.

Okay set to factury default settings hmm .Well i cant work this out after leaving in hanging for several hrs,and after hitting the reset button several times i hit the reset again and it booted up perfectly.Ran for 30 seconds then rebooted again thats ok everything seemed fine ,hit delete reset to fac settings default.saved then re booted no probs ,i left the pc running for 5 hrs doing a few scans ,and it was perfect.Iwent to start it today and it hangs again ,is there any other settings i should check when i can get back in to the bios again, any idears.Thanks for your help everyone.

At what point? Before it gets to BIOS? Do you get any beeps? Do you have latest BIOS?

no beeps, i pluged in external speaker and i hear nothing .I seemed to be able to get to the bios after a few hours of it hanging,i t hung alday yesterday and i coudlnt reboot it at all .

after leaving my PC on all night and some of today ,i wasn't sure i should turn it off . i thought ill download the windows office cd,I found out that my cd /dvd rom was not being recognized and had disappeared from the { my computer} i found out the model and downloaded the latest drivers,re booted and it booted up perfect.I shut it down and restarted it no probs,ok ill leave it off longer this time an hr or 3 ,hit the on button and nothing ,it restart and nothing ,hit restart again and it booted perfect with no errors .Thanks ED CANUCK CHEERS FROM ROB :) DOWN UNDER .
