Boot fail

Last night my pc was running fine and just before I went for some shut eye put my pc into sleep mode
today I woke my pc only for it not to allow me to log on, mouse movement only nothing was clickable so after a short while I decided to reset
upon boot I got the green loading bar but then a black screen after about 20 mins I gave up and tried a restore last good config.... Yeah nice one it bsod on me At 55% chkdsk and now I get a windows boot manager error
file: \boot\bcd
I tried Bootrec /RebuildBcd but it brings back an error that it can not create the new file as the file already exists
I'm not having much luck with the recovery disk for repair options as it can't seem to find the OS and brings back errors of can not recover
everything seems on a go slow and ubuntu can't find my c drive
even tried spin right and that can't recover a bad sector
I'm at a loss as to what to do befor the fresh install option
I'm on my last option to try use a back up store disk but I'm of the opinion that not even that will help
edit: I'm now sat at system recovery where no drives or OS ar showing

The surest way to fix it is a Complete reformat and re-install of windows.

Can you enter Safe Mode? If so, at least you can save all of your files.

No, no safe mode I'm lucky most files are backed up and a second drive but I have some photos and 2 other file I could realy do with recovering , I just found an old knoppix disc and hope that will allow me to access those files after this.... Hmmmm system recovery options failed to save startup option... I'll have no hair left at this rate

Can you go into the Bios and see if your drive is listed, let me know if its there.

Yes everything is listed as normal in the bios

Try unplugging the main power lead for ten minutes and then retry the repair option.

Already 10 steps ahead of you haha yeah I've tried all the usual, I'm now preparing for a loss of data and a fresh format... Shortly followed buy a full system restore.... I really don't think there is going to be another way round this.... Here's to hoping my HDD has not failed and a format will cure things.... Just this long wait for everything that's getting me worried

Should have tried before now bit o dico'd the c drive and left d in place tried the boot cd and everything ran at optimum speed then switched d for ony c and everything went slow so now I'm trying a full format with an xp disc se if it makes a difference if not then it's safe to say that my 150 wd is dead.... Anyone know the warrantie on westrn digital drives?150 raptor
edit: XP setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged
well I think this has found the problem

depending on the date, 3-5 years, theres a app on their site which will say if its still under warrenty, to help diagnose the prob is the drive readable from a enclosure?

No it up at the very top I'll take it out tomorrow and put the number in the site looks like I'll have to go out and get a replacement drive damn its Sunday tomorrow too god damn it... Ilways happens when the shops are shut ffs is there any way I can install windows on my second drive without the loss of data that is already on, thought I could partition it without formating, I can't afford to lose the data and without an os I have no way of backing it up.... This just gets better every second

In the meantime, just to verify, you might want to try SeaTools for DOS . It usually recognizes WDC drives.

Got ubuntu to read my storage drive and was able to back up the data I needed
I'm now just going to format that drive and use it as the primery drive for now might make a small patition but not sure yet, suppose I'm just lucky I had 2 HDD's installed and a copy of Linux
suppose this is going to take a while to install ect so I'll update you guys later when my pc is brought back from the dead
