Unable to access registry

I click start, go to search box and no matter what I type in...cmd, run, whatever...I can't get the appropriate dialog box. Can anyone help. This problem only arose today for some reason.

Vista home Premium 32bit.

Hello,

Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue. Type "regedit" without the quotes and press enter. Go past the UAC prompt if necessary. This should allow you to graphically edit the registry, if not, post back and I will assist you. Please be specific on what the error you receive is. Thanks!

Thanks Richard. After some more lengthy surfing I did find the "Windows key" plus "R" solution. Also another tip which enabled me to show run in the START menu.

These allow me to access the registry but it's just annoying that the dialog box won't show if I type in the StartSearch box. Oh well!!

If you type regedit into the Search box and press enter, it should appear. If it does not, type regedit without pressing enter and let the results load. If the top result is not regedit.exe, then this is your problem.

Yes, that's the original problem. When I type regedit in the Start Search box nothing appears whether I press enter or not.
