Check Disk -chkdsk - problems

I'm trying to run check disk but when I run it, it takes way-way too long. After an hour it was still only on 13% done, ad it was there for about 45 minutes already. At this rate, it would take about a week to go throuhg the whole disk.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

What size hard drive, how are your running chkdsk, what are your System Specs?

My "C" partition has 580 gigs of space. I went into properties and clicked "check now" and restarted my computer.

Sounds like a hard disk problem - but could be memory or the motherboard.
