Start up problems (Vista Hp Pavilion dv2000 Home Premium)

I dont know how to fully explain it but when I hit the power button to turn the laptop on where as normally it would start up with the screen to hit F12 or F2, well mine just doesnt do anything and stays black but lit. So basically it doesnt start at all I guess. Any suggestions on the problem?

Also if it helps, when I restart for updates or for instalation of something, it never restarts right. It will shut down, screen goes black, then black lit, but never anything after it

Do you hear it trying to boot? Do you hear any beeps? If so describe, long, short, number etc.

Fan starts lights(button) are on and as far as I know there are no beeps but it sounds like its starting with a normal rumble but nothing comes up on screen

No, its not coming on, the first thing that pops on the screen normally (for working laptops) is the F12 and F2 thing correct? But mine never shows that! Nothing shows on the screen, it just rumbles and lights come on but nothing on the screen(backlights but thats all)

Turn off computer, then boot. Continually hit f8 rapidly. Does anything happen?

Ok, what am I looking for or listening for? (BEEP), because it may take about 10 minutes to get it going back again lol.


Also if it helps, detailed info:

First time turning it on: Nothing happens, black screen with backlights on, and buttons lit. After a few minutes of moving the mouse and nothing I hold the off butto down long enough to cut it off and then turn it on agian
Second time turning it on: Sometimes if I move the mouse(moving the touch pad) it will start up and do fine, and sometimes it takes three or more times turning off and on for it to work. But almost never will it start first time(restart or regular turn on)

With f8 just want to see if it does go to safe mode.

No beeps is good, probably not hardware issue.

Ok I shutdown and turned the computer back on, I noticed one thing thou the backlights do not come on. I hit the F8 key like you said, no beep nor did it come up in safe mode. It took several tries for it to get started up agian thou.

If you choose startup repair, it will just allow you to boot; it is not like system restore. But, I will not make any commitment as to what will actually happen, I will only tell you what should happen. Bottom line, you cannot boot, startup repair is suppose to allow you to boot. Not many choices available.

Well lets put it this way, this computer is in worse conditions possible as in problems, I have another post about my internet WLAN not working. Its one thing after another. Thank you for your help, the torrent is still downloading, and I will post later as to what happened, but I want to thank you personally for be patient with me lol, and this probably wont be the last post knowing how this laptop is lol. The guy at the shop told me that the best thing to do is upgrade to Windows 7 for the internet problem and that would help with program and driver problems and as for the start that could be anything lol, what great help he was.
