Hello there,

I'm getting desperate here and hoping some one can help.
On my laptop is installed a optiarc dvd rw AD 5540A.
I want to upgrade to win 7 but it can't read the disk it keeps spitting it out and asking me to place a disk?
It can read all kind of cd's and dvd's, I can see it in my bios and there is no exlamation mark in the device manager, when I try to update the driver it tells me the best driver is installed for this device.
Tried to fix the problem by removing the upper and lower filters but that did not work!

Is there anything else I can try?

I am currently running vista home premium 32 bit version.

More strange is I also purchased Office 2007 and that it can read??
Tried the win 7 disk on another computer no problems with the disk.

Thank you.

Try re-installing the driver for your disk drive.

What type of disc is the windows 7 one?

It is a dvd disk windows 7 home premium it comes with a 32 and a 64 bit disk.
On the disk it says: contains windows anytime upgrade.
Most of all it is not an illegal disk I bought a legal version in the store and I should be able to install it on both my computers.
I already installed the 32 bit version on my desktop and had no problems.
I tried both of them (although I know I need to upgrade to the 32 version)
but it can not read this disk.
Like I said I tried more dvd's (movie, music) and cd rom and the office 2007 disk and that is readable by my dvd player?
I also tried the dvd disk on another comupter and it opened up right away so there is nothing wrong with the disk (did not install just to see if there is something wrong with it).
Just want my desktop and laptop to run windows 7.

I'm puzzled here:(

My Computer

It keeps spiiting it out
Do you mean it ejects the dvd as soon as it detects it ?

Any kind of error message?

On a separate point - if you want use it on two different machines - you will need 2 different windows 7 licenses.

I assume it is not the Family pack - in that case, you got 2 dvd's , but only one license.

That license can be used with either the 32 bit dvd, or the 64 bit dvd - but is only valid for one machine.

Yes the dvd player tries to detect the dvd but can not read it and then ejects it and ask me to put a disk in the drive.
And no, I can install windows 7 on max 3 home computers but I only need it on two, my desktop (succesfuly installed) and my laptop. The reason is my desktop still had xp on it and my laptop has vista so if I want to share folders on both I need the same system.

Read some more posts on internet could it be my motherboard is not suitable reading the win 7 disk?
And if so is there a way to solve this?

should have been clearer there is no error message.

What happens if you put a vista dvd in the drive - does it eject that too?

When you install it, do you boot with the Windows 7 cd or do u put it in after bios checks for hard drive? If it is boot cd, then you have to change your boot order. Go into cmos, then boot priority and put cd as the first one, hdd and everything else below that
