just got a Acer Aspire 6935G, few months old, no previous problems. just ran sfc to check the system files and windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them. the trouble is i cant access the CBS.log file to see the violation/s. keeps saying access denied, i have tried changing the file permissions for my user account (ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT) to full control but still i get access denied. should i take ownership? thanks for the help !
Give ownership and full control to EVERYONE, then upload cbs.log without trying to analyse it (copy it onto your Desktop first) I will parse it and send you the new log.

Sorry for my late response. The only issue is settings.ini of Sidebar. This is a very small corruption, often caused by installing gadgets and can easily be ignored. If you really, really want to fix this issue, log in as an Administrator. Stop Sidebar in System Tray. Close anything to do with sidebar in Task Manager. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar.
Navigate to settings.ini and right click on it and select Properties.
Under the Security tab, click Advanced.
Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
Click "Other Users and Groups".
Click Advanced.
Click "Find Now".
Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
Click OK THREE times.
Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
Click Add.
Click Advanced.
Click "Find Now".
Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
Click OK.
Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
Click OK TWO times.
Rename settings.ini to setting.ini.old. You may have to reinstall some of your gadgets.
Re-run SFC and see if this fixes your issue. Note, when you reinstall your gadgets, this corruption may reappear. This is not really a corruption, more SFC not recognising your gadgets.

nice one richard. must be one of the gadgets installed at factory because i have never used it, the only time i see side bar is when i have done a factory restore and i always remove it from the start-up programs at the first chance i get... thanks again.
Same. I have never used the Sidebar and hate it with a passion. Anyway, glad you are happy and thanks very much for the +rep. I know this should not make a difference, but your +rep tipped the balance and I got my final bright green dot!
