Hi y'all,
No current problems, just curious.
I've got a desktop running 32-bit & 2 laptops running x64.
The laptops came with the software pre-installed and a recovery partition, so no software disks. The desktop was custom-built, so all disks available, including Vista Home Premium.
I try to keep all of them in sync in terms of installed software (excluding apps that I run only on desktop, e.g. Quicken), and it's only a relatively minor inconvenience to sometimes have to install a 64-bit version of software because the 32-bit version won't run, but some of those don't have a 32-bit version. In addition, it's been a pain, the odd times I've had to do a clean reinstall on the laptops to not be able to copy things like shortcuts from the desktop because of the different Program Files folders. With some exceptions, most of the 64-bit software is Microsoft, and there's no functional differences, that I'm aware of, between the 64-bit software and the 32-bit versions. And I really hate having to remove all the bloat from a reinstall, before getting down to business.
So, I was wondering...
1. Will the laptops run the 32-bit version without problems?
2. Could I install the 32-bit Vista and activate with the 64-bit license keys?
3. If yes to the above, what's the likely performance hit, if any?
4. Any other considerations?
As I said, just curious (for the moment).
