Bad Image Error re: DLL files

Somebody Pleeeeease help me, I have spent the last two weeks trying to figure how to fix annoying pop ups that have Bad Image error message, all related to two files:
1) C:\windows\system32\nlaapi.dll
2) c:\windows\apppatch\iebrshim.dll

I have been through MS help support site (useless), I have scanned and rescanned with SFC, I spent hours hunting fixes. The two issues I keep coming up against are the reg checking software others suggest won't work on x64 systems and I have located the two offending files which are both 0 in size but I cannot do anything with them.

Every time I open IE or Chrome window these messages pop up and take 20-30 clicks to go away.
I am a LOW tech minded user (I switch it on and it goes...) if any technical advice please be patient and advise step by step.

I really appreciate any help in advance.

Why don't you do this first. Do a SFC scan and see if this fixes the problem. Below are the instructions from a Vista Tutorial.

The System File Checker is an important application which scans the integrity of all the protected system files on your PC. Should it locate an incorrect version of a specific protected file SFC automatically replaces it with the correct Microsoft version.

To check your Windows protected files, proceed as follows:

1/ Click the Start button.

2/ From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories.

3/ In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option.

4/ From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the Run as administrator option.

5/ If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc.

6/ In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter.

7/ A message will appear stating that the system scan will begin.

8/ Be patient because the scan may take some time.

9/ If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue.

10/ If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.

11/ After the scan has completed, Close the command prompt window

Thanks for taking the time to reply I have done that quite a few times (as another forum said sometimes it takes a few goes to fix it) when it is done it tells me there were errors that could not be fixed.

Not sure what's next?

Since you already done that to no avail, I would suggest it is time to treat it as a Adware Virus. Here is a link where you can receive help in removing it Here. Follow all instructions and be patient. I am confident they will be able to help resolve your issue.
