I'm trying to reduce the clutter in Computer explorer window. I can't "Hide Empty Drives" so that all those little memory stick thingies don't show when they are empty. If anyone knows the secret I'd appreciate it.
Only good thing is I tried reenabling Shell Hardware Detection and as a reward my Seagate external USB drive now has an icon that looks just like it!! Whoopie!!!

Hallo MilesAhead, you could go into Disk Managment and remove the drive letter.
It will mean if you want to unhide you will just have to reassign a drive letter to it again

Thanks. I'm not likely to use the memory sticks soon. Just have to remember to put the letters back if I do I guess.

Hello Miles,
Well other than what Mitchell posted above, you may be happy to know that Windows 7 includes this option.
Drives - Hide or Show Empty Drives in Computer Folder - Windows 7 Forums
Have you tried it yourself? Because on my W7 machine, I have the Tools=>View thing checked "Hide empty drives" and it still shows them. All the empty memory stick slots.
edit: Whoops! Sorry. It did work. Guess it took a bit for it to "sink in" afa Explorer was concerned.
