Gday

I accidently unplugged my external hard drive from the USB port, (got it mixed up with headset). When I plugged it back in the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon popped up. I unticked/unchecked, Display device components. Rebooted, and the Icon still appeared. I find it annoying and want to hide it.

Ok I found something interesting, when I use either admin tools or right click on my external hard drive, go to properties, then click on the tab hardware, click on my usb hard drive, properties yet again, then click on the tab "policies", there is an option Optimise for quick removal.

Now I have this option ticked/checked, so I untick/unchecked it, rebooted, and of course the usb safe removal icon popped up. So i ticked/checked Optimise for safe removal again rebooted. And blow me down if the bloody usb icon wasnt still there

This will completely clear out your notification icon cache

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/99008-notification-icons-reset.html

After this the cache will repopulate itself as you use or plug in items.

Ok now I am really annoyed  ..... to date, I have uninstalled all the drivers to the external hard drive, rebooted, reinstalled the drivers, rebooted.

I use either admin tools or right click on my external hard drive, go to properties, then click on the tab hardware, click on my usb hard drive, properties yet again, then click on the tab "policies", there is an option Optimise for quick removal.

Now I have this option ticked/checked, so I untick/unchecked it, rebooted, and of course the usb safe removal icon popped up. So i ticked/checked Optimise for safe removal again rebooted.

Done the download for notification reset of icons, and also the manual reset of icons, and yet still the damn USB device icon shows up.
