Not sure if I should add to old threads!
I had a problem with system restore after reformatting and reinstalling Vista from a backup.
System restore could not create restore points.
Error message : Insufficient storage space 0x8004231f.
I had more than 60GB free....
The volume path in vssadmin was missing a drive letter.
After many hours of searching for a solution and trying vssadmin, registry fixes etc., it only got worse...
Error message : catastrophic failure 0x8000ffff
Reformatted and reinstalled to backup again, same problem.
Finally found a solution that worked for me.
Attach external hard drive (in my case f
Run Dos prompt as administrator (with right click)
(type
wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:f: -include:c: (enter)
I didn't have enough space on the external hard drive to complete the backup but the command was enough to change system restores volume shadow copy paths, system restore worked immediately
I hope that this can save others time and trouble.
