what happen was i downloaded software that was suposed to activate my vista home /after i hit activate it said restart computer/when i did it came up TFGHT COMPRESSED press control alt delete to restart /please can someone help me/ this happened 3 weeks ago i have not come up with anything to fix it yet/i have so much software and photo's in my tower i dont want to have to erase my hard drive and put new copy of windows in:cry:

Try to go to safe mode. Boot computer, during boot repeadly hit f8. You may be able to do a system restore. What OS, do you have now?

If you have XP, there is a feature, not as good as system restore, but you can return to selected intervals of the past.

vista home im not a computer geak but i know some stuff im confused a bit/ty for ur help

i just did system restore and it said it was successful i restarted and still tfght compressed looks like i have lost all my stuff in my tower/omg i should have never used that vista activating crap

System restore has a safeguard, you can return to the original date. Your programs should still be there.

Boot into Safe Mode by clicking F8 repeatedly while booting up and then locate System Restore (Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools) and use that to go back to before this happened.

Don't download software that you are not sure about. No software is needed to activate any kind of Windows whether it be XP, Vista or Windows 7, ... that function is built-in.

If the restore function is successful then turn off System Restore to delete that bad restore point.

Help with that here: How to enable or disable System Restore in Vista

Re-enable it after you are sure that everything is OK.

I suggest strongly that you back up all your important documents and folders to either an external hard drive or external media such as re-recordable CD's (CDRW media) or DVD's (DVDRW's). Then if this kind of thing occurs you wont lose anything if you have to format and reinstall your system.

guess what i cant get f8 f10 or nothing wont let me its goes right back to tfght compressed

oh and i did the repair with the vista cd and i used te disc to also get to my comp and uncompress drive c nothing i dont believe this i may have to redo whole comp

Maybe you didn't go back far enough. You may also have unthinkingly installed malicious software.

In "Safe Mode with Networking" (one of the safe mode options) download, install, update and run the free version of this tool: Malwarebytes.org

..and don't ever compress your drive, it's asking for trouble.

Well good luck but I think it looks like you are going to have to format and reinstall your system. Unless you have a PC repair place near you, they may have some ideas.

hello. i have the same problem
at first my computer couldn't open saying bootmgr is missing...
after one week it's says tfght is compressed

the system restore is not working
i can't go 2 weeks ago before to be sure tha the restore point will work

any ideas???
i do not want to miss my files from the c drive....
