How long the dick error checking takes place?

Hi,

I'm having vista home premium, 320 GB Hard disk, 1.8 GHz processor Intel pentium dual core.

I'm trying for disk check errors
  1. Right-clicked on the c drive.
  2. Selected the Tools tab.
  3. Click the Check Now... button.
  4. clicked the Continue button.
  5. Selected disk checking options:
    • Error-Checking to attempt to correct file system problems, place a check in the Automatically Fix File System Errors check box.
    • Error-Checking to automatically try to fix bad sectors on your drive, place a check in the Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors check box.
  6. Then Started.
Restarted the mechine.

Welcome screen is appearing since 20 hours.

how long this takes place?

Can anyone help me out? How can i turn off the mechine manually?

It happend to me once, I am so happy that I or the other Richard could help. You want to avoid, pulling the plug. It can damage the HD. Take care.
