yes my friend before he moved out decided he needed to steal my windows vista home premium dvd and the cd key was attached to the back of the case as well as written inside the booklet that came with the software. is there anyway I can get a replacement dvd from microsoft. i am on a fixed income so i can not just run out and buy a new copy of windows vista home premium. I'm using my copy of windows xp service pack 2 right now. I'd appreciate any information anyone has as I am not very computer savvy. also I have a problem with my computer where I can not boot up from the xp cd but I know the dvd drive is working because when its on the desktop it registers the cd. also i know the keyboard is working because obviously i typed this post. I have a gigabyte motherboard with amd athlon dual core 2.2

If you do not have the key number (which you probably do not) you may be out of luck. But, you can call MS, explain the situation and they may give you some sort of break on a new DVD. Possibly the store where you bought it can give you some insight to the number. Maybe, they are purchased in numerical sequence. I wish you luck

just got off the phone with them they told me it will cost me 25 dollars plus tax and shipping and I will get a new cd key if I provide the receipt from tiger direct showing I bought it. now about my other question. I have two hardrives and both have xp on it. but for some reason i can't format the hardrive I am not using while booted up in the other one and in disk management both say they are the active partition but only one says it is the system.

go back to disk management, right click on the one you want to format, does it give you the option to "delete" , then you should be able to format it....good luck
If not heres a couple free partition programs... Free partition software by PartitionWizard.com and others
