Greetings,
I hope to get some assistance on a very annoying issue i am experiencing with about 5-6 PCs i have in the field running kiosks.
Each PC has the same devices connected to them via USB. these devices are:
Polaroid Card printer (3000 series)
Thermal Reciept Printer (Star 900 series)
Credit card reader
Bill Validator
Touch Screen
Verizon Aircard
All PCs have Vista Business installed
PCs are Dell Optiplex 760
What is happening on these machines is that the Thermal Reciept printer will suddently stop working. When investigating the issue we find that a message appears in the OS of: USB Device Not Recognzed. when researching to discover the device in question we find the Thermal reciept printer is the problem. In Printers the thermal printer is grey'd out.
It is acting as if the USB cable has been disconnected and/or the power on the printer has been turned off. None of these items is the case. Printer is connected and power is on.
I delete the printer in Printers. Remove the driver in printer server options. I then power off the printer and reboot. When PC comes back up i power on the printer ans Vista detects and installs the printer, in most cases.
I have had some issuees on some PCs where i have had to manually install the printer on the USP port (usually USB001) as Vista fails to "detect" the printer connected. there is no chime or nothing listed in Device manager of an unknown device.
this is a very irratating issue that i need to find out what is causignthe printer to suddently "disappear".
These PCs are in kiosks spread accross the US so very difficult to get to PC in person or get assistance.
any help identifying this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
