Can't Turn off my display Vista 64

Didnt really solve my problem. Found out it's the problem with iMac bootcamp which Apple will likely fix. Something to do with the headphone in-put on iMac, windows can't sleep when it's plugged in.

I've been trying to Turn off my display using the power settings in Vista 64 which didn't work for me. Tried using different programs like Mon0 1.1 etc, i downloaded from Cnet just to turn off my display but all failed. Display keep turning back on, even when there's no programs running. Tried all sorts of ways, running powercfg with code :
powercfg -Change -monitor-timeout-ac 10
powercfg -Change -monitor-timeout-dc 10

But doesn't seem to have any effect. Nothing. :mad:

I think there are programs running at the background which i don't know what is it, keeping my display or my computer from going to sleep mode. But seems too complicated for a novice like me to understand how PC and OS works.

Is there anyway to put the display to sleep mode? Any settings, powercfg code or anything? Basically i just want my display to be in sleep mode, not my computer. Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance!

I am running bootcamp vista 64 on my iMac Quad Core i7.

Go to search type cmd. Right click on CMD, run as administrator. In that prompt type this
powercfg -lastwake.... from CMD It will tell you what is waking your computer. Then we can fix it.

Do all this as administrator user, and after you have the sleep problem

Everything looks fine to me.

The powercfg, that I supplied was suppose to show the reason that the computer monitor did not stay turned off. In the absence of that information. I am forced to assume in this order the internet, then the mouse and then the keyboard were the cause of this problem. The items mentioned are the primary causes of computer wake up and the screen display problem. We will test the first cause:

Go to device manager...click on network adaptors..click on the actual adapator (mine is intel)...change settings....power management...un check the box "allow this to wake my computer". Let see how that works.

If it does not work. Leave the setting in our test mode, and test the mouse. If that does not work, return the mouse setting only and then test the keyboard. During all tests leave the network in do not wake mode.

The mouse may have settings that are too sensitive. You can change them in control panel, Mouse.

If all that fails, check your drivers, make sure all are up to date and functioning properly.

If that fails, before the monitor is ready to shut down go to the task manager, write down the process that are still running and shut down one of them. If the problem continues, use the task manager to determine what is running. Shut down one that currrently appears and is on your list. Of course, do not shut down the one that was tried previously, we know that is not the problem We should get the culprit eventually.

A possible problem. You are set to shut display after 2 minutes. Make it 6. I had a poster that had a problem that disaplay would not shut down before 6 minutes. Maybe default is more than 5.

No luck on the 6 mins settings on turn off display. Display won't go to sleep.
I have Mon0 software installed, where i can turn off monitor with a click on the tool.
But my display keep waking up instantly. :(

I have no clues what's waking up or keeping my display from going into sleep mode.
Has it got to do with my turbo boost technology driver? Or should i update my
graphics card driver to a newer one? I am using a gfx card driver from Microsoft
(Date : Sep 2009). Or could it be my bluetooth Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse?
I've tested it with the wired ones. As you've said everything looks fine.

The turn off display used to work fine on my iMac Core 2. Happened only recently when
i upgraded to a iMac i7 with the same Vista Ultimate OS. Wondering even if i change to
Windows 7 just for this problem just ain't worth it if problem persist.
Is there any way in CMD to force the display to sleep mode and able
to wake up with a key or mouse? Thanks.

Put into sleep mode. See if it wakes by itself. If it does. Use the powercfg command that I gave you. It will tell a lot.

If you have not done it for a while. Turn off computer and boot.

All of your suggestions are possiblites. I already mentioned the drivers, but you know as well as me, its just guessing at this point.

You could try this. Go to search, type cmd... then right click run as administrator. Then type this in CMD..... sfc /scannow. See if that shows any thing, but I doubt it. All done from administrators users account.

Thanks so much for the prompt replies. Yes, when i put it to sleep from
start up menu, computer does go to sleep. And won't wake up by itself.
The cmd you gave me was powercfg -lastwake. Which i did and what
i got was only Wake History Count - 0 :
C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 0

Ran sfc /scannow.
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

As for the drivers, i might not sure should i upgrade my Gfx card driver
as it's working fine. Ran Drivercure software to check for outdated drivers,
everything was fine. The only driver problem is with
Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver = "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
Went Intel website, i already have the latest driver for Turbo Boost Technology driver.
Are there any codes just to force display to sleep but not computer?

Thanks richc46! I've been to the link before. Was reading it before and led me further and further until i was confused. There are so much to understand or perhaps too much for a novice like me to handle it. I was hoping for a step by step solution straight to my problem. But I will definately go through it again. Thanks Richard. Still no luck after reading the tutorials.
The more i tweaked, the worst my Vista becomes. To a stage where
my Windows defender stop working, Dreamscene stop playing and bluetooth
icon on taskbar disappeared, etc. I had to manually start up these
tools after every OS start up until i decided to do a clean reinstall for Vista.
Immediately after reinstalling, i set the power settings without any other
software or update installed. Display never go to sleep after specific
time set. After all updating everything. Same problem. I give up.:confused::(

Did you notice, on the tutorial that I sent you, on the first page, in yellow, the hint about updating drivers, etc. That area appears to be the most likely area to check out. Everything else that you try results in failure.

Yup before i went tweaking and CMDing, even when the microsoft driver i had been using was working fine, i updated my Gfx card driver to a newer ones . Ran Drivercure software again to check for outdated drivers, everything was fine. The only driver problem currently after reinstall is with
Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver = "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
Went Intel website, i already have the latest driver for Turbo Boost Technology driver. Wondering what is this Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver and is it causing the problem.But no fix nor driver to update to.Thanks.
