my shell folders are all gone!!

i was trying to back up my files by dragging folders to my external hardrive but i didnt think of all the trouble i would cause. Now i dont have any folders in my USERNAME folder how do i get them back? i cant even save documents from word and i think its because of that same problem. the error i get is that word has inssuficient memory.
HELP!!!
