Hi there, I'm wondering if someone could help or some advice.
Under a month ago, I installed a new hard drive a extra 4 gig of ram and Vista Ultimate x64, then every other day I would get a BSOD (and still do) and the likely cause was\is by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe, with errors ranging from
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (3 times)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (4 times)
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (4 times)
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (Once so far)
BAD_POOL_HEADER (Once so far)
I had other BSOD with other errors caused by the following modules: ntfs.sys, ecache.sys and aswtdi.sys but the majority of the BSOD are caused by ntoskrnl.exe.
Now in the past week I have ran an extensive memory test using memtest86+ v4.00 testing 11 different combinations like slots 1 and 2, slots 3 and 4,, slots 1, 2 and 3, slots 1, 2 and 4 and so on, and all have passed, I've ran some twice and have passed twice,
I have tested the Hard Drive that C: is located on using both CHKDSK /R and Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows (since the drive is a Western Digital) and it has passed with out any errors being detected but am still getting the BSOD with it likely caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe, (the error is never the same).
At first I thought it might be a problem with a program called AutoGK (v2.55), as I suddenly would get a BSOD 10 minutes after the program had started and was in use, so uninstalled it and installed an older version as I didn't have problems with it when I had Vista Ultimate x64 previously, but then would get a BSOD when I was viewing web pages from IE and AutoGK wasn't running, so now I'm at a loss.
I'm now wondering if it’s just a simple case of a Windows or Software problem or that even though Vista Ultimate x64 was installed it might not have installed some system file correctly and that formatting the hard drive then re-installing windows will sort this out as I've never experienced anything like this when Ultimate x64 was installed before (but did experience my PC randomly freezing when I logged in to Windows, but was fine once I rebooted).
Since both memory and hard drive have reported no errors, the voltage for the memory is at the correct voltage of 1.8v, the memory I have is on my motherboard QVL and also the motherboard is on my memory's QVL, all sound and video card drivers are up-to-date and I don't over clock my PC (this is why I'm pointing to a Windows\Software problem).
Another things is I'm also wondering if my Bios settings are also 'to blame', as I need to change the setting from IDE to ACHI, as I have 4 sata drives in the 1st 4 Sata ports and a Sata Dvd Drive in the 5th Sata port, and in order to get my DVD drive to work and to be detected I can't select IDE, as that only recognises the 1st 4 Sata ports on my Motherboard.
