Mouse problem in Vista Ulitmate 64

I know this is kind of random, but I'm hoping there are some guru's out there that can help.

I just installed Vista Ultimate 64 on my "new" compy. It's a dual processor machine running 2 AMD opteron 64 bit processors, 2GHz each. Everything is working correctly with the sole exception of my mouse. It's a Microsoft Trackball Optical USB.

When I boot up the comp, the mouse doesn't work until I unplug it from the box then plug it back in. Then it works fine.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it? It's really piddling me off.

    Its getting old, been upgrading it over the past few years, mainly the ram and the gpu's. Will hold out till some next year before I build another one.
Did you uninstall the existing drivers first? Sounds very odd behavior to me. Any other pc to try it out on?

It's a new install, so the previous driver is only what vista has built in. I used to use this exact mouse on my old comp (now in pieces), and I've never had a problem with it, so I doubt it's a problem with the mouse itself.

Did you install it yourself via driver download or did you let windows find and install it for you?

If the former, it could just be playing up. How long have you had it?
If the later, download the driver for it and install it again and see if it helps.

I downloaded the driver myself and installed it yesterday or the day before. I've only had Vista installed for a few days now, so this is all a new problem.

Services
Right Mouse Click on Ready Boost
Select Properties
Dropdown Select Disabled
Click Apply

Reboot. . . see if that makes a difference!
