Problem with Shortcut error message

Several of my desktop items can't be accessed because of a shortcut error. For instance, the only way I can run MalwareBytes is to delete it all, download it again, then run it. IF I try to use the shortcut again later, I get this message:

Problem with shortcut
The item 'MalwareBytes . . . ' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.
Do you want to delete this shortcut?

I'm using an Acer Aspire 9410Z, with Vista, and though I don't think that matters in providing a solution, if I knew that for sure, I wouldn't be here! A few years of using computers, doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, so I'll greatly appreciate the solution to this annoying problem. ThanX!

I think that it might be something with your disk defragment. Try shutting it off.
I am thinking this because if your defragment program is moving the install files or defraging the wrong area, it could cause this problem.

Try shutting your disk defragment using this tutorial and let us know if the problem happens the next day.

Okay Ben . . . I turned off the degrag thingy, but the shortcut error message still comes up. Any other ideas?

I've got other 'issues' too, but in order to keep this thread on topic I'll post it elsewhere. It has to do with a startup error I get, one of those 'windows cannot find' messages.

Have u tried scanning your computer for viruses?

Ah, now here is another issue I just discovered when I couldn't update AVG to their latest - version 9 I think. I had to uninstall AVG because of a conflict with Windows Security Essentials, but up to that point it ran everyday without finding anything.

Now, when I try to deal with this Windows program, I get this mesage:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Which I know I need to also post separately, but it seems one things leads to another. Oh, and about that 'appropriate permission' I'm the owner and only user of this laptop, so obviously one thing just leads to another. When I sign on as Adminstrator I have more problems, because I can't go online to update or find solutions, and so I'm stuck there too.

I guess you gave up on me, huh? Well, now I have another problem . . .

Blue Screen - bad_pool_caller and I can't read the rest of the message before it's gone, but I'm off to post it separately to get help with that for now.

You might consider doing a system restore using a restore point dated before these problems started to see if it may be able to fix it for you.
