Vista Ultimate x64 - External hard disk doesn't receive drive letter

Hi everyone,

I have a PC running Vista Ultimate x64 and I just installed a 1Tb external hard disk (an eSATA/USB 2.0 combo) Through USB.

The problem is that the OS doesn't assign any drive letter to the external disk.

I tried to reinstall but it doesn't work at all.

In Disk management, choosing to "initialize" the disk, I selected the MBR partitioning style...but it returns an "invalid function" error message.

How can I fix this problem?

The system reads that there is a disk but it doesnt' recognize it and it doesnt assign any drive letter.

Did you format it ? ?

Many drives ship unformatted...

TIP: If you want it to keep the same drive letter even when USB devices are added ( handy for all sorts of reasons ) once it's formatted select a drive letter that's not currently in use and assign it....next give it a Volume name.

This also works with thumb drives as well...

It is impossible even to see either it is formatted or not....because I can see a NEW DISK only in Disk Management...and I am not given any chance to do anything different from Initializing it. But doing so, I receive a INVALID FUNCTION mistake message.
