Card Reader Drives Disappered

This is really weird. I rebooted my PC this A.M. and immediately noticed my card reader drives were not listed in the Computer drive listing panel. I inserted a flash card into the H flash drive and it would not respond. I tried to do a system restore several times and that fails to complete every time. I disabled Norton Auto-protect and did a system restore to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated with both the system restore failure and the missing card reader ports.

If you Google card reader disappeared in vista , there are many different suggestions how to fix it. It could have disappeared for a variety of reasons.
