Vista has a blank white screen after log in

Hello everybody. I am new to this site, and pretty new to Vista. I am using Home Premium on an Acer Aspire 2920Z, and I recently updated my Vista, using the normal windows update. This made my WHOLE operating system go completely retarded, but once I used safe mode a couple of times it sorted out. I recently installed Ubuntu, so I can dual-boot my laptop. Now, all of a sudden after the Ubuntu install, my windows vista is broken!! I get to the log in screen, and i log in as normal, and then i get to my desktop - which is just a blank white screen with my curser on it. I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL, and i can log off and shut down, but I can not use task manager, and it gives me an error message saying something like 'it can not run' or something. I DESPERATELY need help on how to fix this. is it to do with my Ubuntu? I hope someone can help me quickly, i really need it.

same happening to me, now i'm using the safe mode to find the answer......:cry:

    Its getting old, been upgrading it over the past few years, mainly the ram and the gpu's. Will hold out till some next year before I build another one.
anybody reading this thread you are in luck :)

i too had the "WSOD" White Screen Of Death and for 4 days i was in pieces trying to sort it out just when i was about to trash my pc and buy a new one i created a new user profile in "safe mode" on my pc and guess what?? it works 100% fine and i have now removed the original profile that was causing my WSOD!!

please dont worry and try and sort this WSOD as you cant! i dont know what caused it and i dont care im just happy i dont have to spend another £3000 on a new pc.
