difficulty opening downloaded programs

I am having a problem with programs that I have downloaded. I try to open them and I get this statement:

This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this problem?

From where do you try to open it? (shortcut on the desktop, All Programs, .exe in Programs on C )

I have tried to open it from the desktop and all programs. I get this response when I have downloaded the program and I am trying to open it.

Open C, go to Program Files and see whether the program is there. If yes, open the folder of this program and double click on the .exe. If that works, right click on the .exe and "send to > Desktop". Then you have a shortcut on the desktop from where you can open it. You can also choose "Pin to Startmenu".
If, however, you cannot find it in Program files, then the program was not installed correctly.

Thank you for the reply. I checked in program files and the program is not there. I am trying to download Itunes to a new computer without success. I have had this problem with multiple other programs as well.

Possibly something wrong with your installer. Run sfc /scannow in elevated command prompt. Maybe it can fix it - no guarantee though.
