Error trying to upgrade to Vista

I have been using Windows XP for forever now and I want to upgrade to vista, This computer isn't super special but it can handle vista because the old hard drive had it and they were the same size. This is an 80gb hd with 65gb free, I want to upgrade to vista and maybe upgrade to 7, (you don't lose your files that way, I know I'm lazy). Well about 10 seconds into pressing install I get this... (0x80004005 file in attachments)

I know it's not the install it's something with this computer, but what is it? I have searched forums for it but never found a good answer, So I was thinking it would be about time for me to ask. Lol
I wanted to go to disk management and select the drive and I get the RPC Server is unavailable. (selectdrive image)

Last week svchost.exe after the DCOM server process launcher service keep crashing, it would restart my computer and svchost.exe was making files that filled my hd, I got rid of them and disable the DCOM server from restarting my computer, etc. Well after that windows is starting to give up, and I just wanna upgrade, I don't know how to say it lol.

Not to be mean but you are better off backing up your data a doing a clean install over what you have because you may have corrupted some data during the upgrade. Did you try an upgrade to 64-bit because that may have def caused an issue. I am sorry to tell you but you are by far better doing a clean install.
