Solved No desktop icons only in Safe Mode

Vista Home Premium SP2

Normal start gives me normal desktop - no problems.

But when I start in Safe Mode there is just a black desktop. I used to have my desktop icons appear in Safe Mode but they don't anymore.

I can go to Start/My name/Desktop and a window opens showing a LIST of things, but there is no recycle bin, for instance.

I just started in Safe Mode and realized that I must have accidentally placed the uninstall file I wanted to use in the trash and I couldn't get to it so had to restart again in normal mode.

Can anyone advise?

Using System Restore at this time wouldn't be a good option. Besides that, I have no idea when this might have started. I rarely ever go into safe mode.

I have already run sfc /scannow and also ran file checker 2 nights ago.

I ran startup repair a couple of weeks ago. Isn't that where you press the F12 key?

I don't have a Vista DVD. The program came installed so I guess it's called OEM software. One thing I've learned. The next time I buy a computer they will either provide me with the regular operating system CD or I'll shop around until I find someone who will. This is my 3rd computer and I can't count the number of times I've been asked or told to insert this OS CD to fix something and I've never had one.

I had given up on getting any simple fixes for this. Thanks for the info. Next time I go into Safe Mode will give this a try.
