New computer having multiple issues

Not sure where to post this as I am having multiple problems.

I bought an HP Pavillion a6750f in May. Its OS is Vista 64bit. This machine ran fine for the first month, then I started having issues. I cannot pinpoint the start of the problems to any one event.

I first "lost" autorun. I was trying to install PhotoImpact. The first disk worked fine, but when I put the second one in, I got an error message telling me something about autorun (seems to me it was something else, but I cannot remember what at this time). Any way, if I put any disks in, the computer would not automatically open them, or run them.

After a few days of struggling with this, I finally got things working again. But, about a week after that, I began getting the Windows Explorer has stopped working error. That still is not fixed!

I am a college student who takes most of my courses online. I needed Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Dreamweaver CS4, so when I tried installing them, I got a bunch of errors, issues, and problems. I uninstalled just about every program I had, and tried installing one at a time to see if any of the programs were causing problems. Vista, as you know, does not support many older programs, which is a PAIN! But, I did find a few "upgrades" for some of my programs so they would work with Vista. Unfortunately, after installing those "upgrades", my computer still did not work properly.

I tried doing a System Restore, but that did not help the problems. So, I contacted HP and asked about doing a System Recovery. They walked me through it (as well as somebody who does not use English as a native language can!) and I thought maybe things would work. No such luck. I called HP again, and they had me do another System Recovery. I did not have some of the issues I had before that, but still am getting the Windows Explorer error message, and now...

ALL media has drastically slowed down. Any videos I try watching, such as on Youtube, are EXTREMELY slow to load. This is a new issue! I need to be able to watch videos because some of my classes require viewing videos. It now takes me at least twice as long to watch a typical video because it takes soooooo long to load.

I'm not sure if these issues are Vista related, or something to do with the computer. Seems to me that this PC should be able to run more than a few months without acquiring issues like this. I am very careful where I surf and what I open, and so far, Kaspersky has been great in catching sites that could be potentially harmful, and catching e-mails that could be harmful.

Any ideas as to what I should do with this machine other than wiping everything clean and starting totally new?

Hi and wecome

One thing I suggest you check is DEP. DEP or data execution prevention is sevice that prevents apps from loading in certain memory areas. It is located in your system control panel>advanced system settings>performance>settings?DEP. it default is windows apps only. You can exclude explorer from dep by adding it to the exclude list shown there.

Let us know the results

Thanks. Nothing in DEP. I don't know what the heck to do with this machine. I may just go ahead and do a reformat. At least start from the beginning, then, when things go wrong, I can maybe tell what happened to start the event.

Unless somebody has other suggestions???

Have you checked your machine for any malware, spyware, adware and trojans and worms. Have you checked for any virus's. Then defrag hard drive. That is where I would start first to eliminate those kinds of issues. Then check with program compatibilities for known issues.

I've done several scans with Kaspersky and TrendMicro. Neither have found anything.

Have not done a defrag as I figured it did not need it, yet. I'll give it a try, though, as I'm sure it can't hurt.

Program compatibilities? There should not BE any! Every program I've got installed is supposed to be compatible with Vista. I've had to buy several programs to be compatible! I am out of money to buy any more. I keep my PC updated/upgraded, keep the anti-virus (Kaspersky) updated, am careful where I surf and what I open. Soooo, unless something slipped past Kaspersky, and then Trend, there should not be any kind of malware, worms, etc.

Not sure what is wrong, but I'm thinking for what I spent on this machine and what it is capable of doing, it should be running better than it is!!!
