Auto Hide box will not stay checked

I have searched for this problem, but did not see it here.

I set my taskbar to auto-hide and it works for a period of time. Eventually, it appears and will not auto-hide. Sometimes this happens after a sleep mode, but not always. I look at the settings and the auto-hide box is unchecked.

Is there a fix for this. I am working on a netbook, so it is a pain in the backside to loose even a little bit of screen space.
