Sony Handy Cam DCR-H52 Built In Mic (Vista)

i was at a friends and he had his camera hooked up for his podcast so that his mic on the camera was what was picking up his voice. i forgot to ask him how to do...but it was just plugged in via firewire.

i came home with my camera to try it and my computer does not pick up the built in mic.
anyone know how to do this?

I'm having 2 Sony cams, none of which is the same model as yours but both don't get the mic recognized under vista using firewire. The solution in my case was to have both cables connected /firewire and usb/ - getting the video from firewire and the mic from the usb. Hope this helps.

mine doesnt have any usb
only firewire and a/v out also dc-in for charging

I don't know if this will be of any help but are you using 6 to 4 pin cable? Sony cams usually have problems with 6-to-4 or don't work at all (especially on vista). Wouldn't hurt to get one 4pin to 4 pin firewire cable.. no more than a couple of bucks. My manual specifically said "use only 4pin cable"

i am using a pc, which only came with a 4 pin
so i had to buy a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire
thanks for the help man
but i went out and bought a new mic
sometimes i just got to suck up my problems and spend alittle lol
